Everton points deduction appeal: Late verdict claim dismissed as Toffees anxiously wait
The verdict from the Everton points deduction appeal isn’t late as the panel has to consider the evidence given following the three day hearing, says Alan Myers.
The Sky Sports journalist replied via Twitter on 7 February to the suggestion that the decision had been delayed following the appeal being heard over the past week [Sky Sports, 30 January].
The Toffees were deducted a Premier League-record 10 points earlier this season for a profit and sustainability breach but the club immediately indicated their intention to appeal, feeling the punishment was disproportionate and their arguments in mitigation for the overspend had been ignored.
In response to the claim the verdict was overdue Myers wrote: “Three days is just the hearing, the panel then has to make its judgment on the evidence given.”
Everton wait anxiously for point deduction appeal answer
It is in keeping with the pattern of this season that Everton and the supporters are obliged to wait nervously for regular periods as they try to concentrate on results.
The atmosphere and performance at Goodison Park as the Toffees fought back to take a point in the 94th minute against Tottenham through Jarrad Branthwaite’s header helped lift the mood around the team at the weekend.
But belief built up on the pitch tends to be followed by another blow inflicted off of it of late, so a positive outcome here would be a welcome change.
Although the points deduction itself was quickly overcome with a strong run of wins through December the second Premier League referral for a subsequent P&S charge has threatened another punishment that could be insurmountable.
Everton are obliged to wait for the process to play out.

So there is a lot riding on this verdict, and either way the sooner Everton know whether they might be out of the woods or not the sooner they know what danger they are facing in terms of the relegation threat.
