The HITC journalist told One Leeds Fan Channel on 4 January that the American is “unhappy” at Union Berlin and an early end to his loan in the Bundesliga is “being looked at”.

And after struggling under a succession of managers in the Premier League last season Farke has been tipped to be perfect for the attacking midfielder.

Bailey said (18m 50s): “It is interesting, the Brenden Aaronson links. Imagine him coming back to Leeds? He’s unhappy at Berlin, there’s a chance he comes back.

“Imagine him coming to the Championship? What a signing that would be. It’s something that’s being looked at. He’s not happy at Berlin so if you’re Leeds and the player wants to come back, it’s something Daniel Farke’s assessing, he’s a £30m-£40m player.

“He’d be as good as anything in Europe you could bring in. And I think he would love playing under Daniel Farke, Aaronson, he’d be the first Leeds boss that he would love playing under. I think he’d suit him down to the ground.”

On paper Aaronson is the sort of player who might follow Georginio Rutter in translating struggles in the top flight to shining in the second tier.

But when physicality in the Premier League was an issue for the 23-year-old last season, and has been highlighted again during his difficulties in Germany, the Championship doesn’t sound like the obvious place for him to re-find his form.

If Farke is interested in the idea then he may see Aaronson as a cheap solution to the gap at number 10 in his squad, and perhaps he would indeed be the man to get the best out of the USMNT international, after Jesse Marsch, Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce failed to do so.
