Everton: Andy Gray shares Premier League relegation fear live on air after what Richard Keys said

Andy Gray admits he is still “a little concerned” that Everton are at risk of Premier League relegation this season.

The ex-Everton striker made the comments ahead of the Toffees’ meeting with Manchester City at Goodison Park on Wednesday (27 December).

Everton lost the game 3-1 on home soil after taking the lead in the first half, meaning they remain just one point above 18th-placed Luton Town.

Speaking on beIN SPORTS [27 December], host Richard Keys said: “They’ve got to be careful, but I don’t see them getting into serious trouble.”

In response, Gray said: “I’m still a little concerned to be honest with you, but that’s just natural because it’s my team.

“I’m obviously still a bit nervous because the teams below have had good results.

“As you know, two wins and you think you’re out of it, but now it’s just one point.”

Squeaky bum time

Everton appeared to be looking up at the top half of the division rather than over their shoulders at the bottom three a couple of weeks ago, but we all know how quickly football can change.

There is no shame in the Toffees losing back-to-back league games against Tottenham and Manchester City, especially when it could be argued they deserved at least a point from both.

However, this is a results business and Luton have taken six points from six over the same period.

Both Everton and the Hatters have now played 18 games and there is just one point between the sides, so every result now really is massive.

Sheffield United and Burnley are not completely out of it just yet, but Luton are undoubtedly looking the best bet of the current bottom three to survive.

It means the pressure is all of a sudden back on Sean Dyche’s men for the trip to in-form Wolves on Saturday (30 December).

Luton host Chelsea earlier that day, so it may be that the Toffees start their game in the relegation zone. If the threat of relegation was not real beforehand, it certainly will be if that happens.
