The January transfer window is fast-approaching, but it seems unlikely that there will be much immediate action for Everton in the market.
Everton have performed well in recent weeks since being handed a 10-point deduction, but still find themselves just one point ahead of Luton Town ahead of tonight’s clash with Manchester City.
Sean Dyche is now getting a tune out of his squad, and whilst more quality will certainly be welcomed, there is perhaps less desperation for extra bodies as there has been in windows gone by, with options at his disposal in most positions.
Director of football Kevin Thelwell has now explained why he expects limited activity in the January transfer window.

Writing on the official club website, Thelwell indicated that it is set to be a quiet window for the Toffees, but business cannot be ruled out.
“As we look to January, I can assure you that, whilst there may not be a great deal of transfer business taking place in the coming weeks, it does not mean the hard work is not continuing,” he stated.
“I have been keen to manoeuvre the Club into a position whereby we are planning two or three transfer windows ahead – not two or three weeks.
“In that context, January is unlikely to be a busy month here. But hard work is ongoing to ensure a squad that has performed consistently well this season can continue to evolve and develop this season, in the summer and beyond.

Thelwell then refused to rule out any incomings:
“Of course, if we feel an opportunity arises in this window for a player we have earmarked and we believe that moving now would deliver an immediate boost to the squad in the short-term, we will explore such an opportunity.”

The uncertainty around the potential takeover of the club, as well as the financial situation, means that big-money arrivals look highly unlikely.
Everton’s main focus has to be keeping hold of key players such as Amadou Onana, who has been linked with a move away.
If an opportunity opens up to make a signing, Everton could look at a right-back given how disappointing Ashley Young has been, but whilst more goals in attacking areas could be welcomed, there are perhaps enough personnel for the time being.
