Wide receiver Ryan Williams, one of the top high school prospects in the nation, decided to reclassify to the 2024 class Monday, and it will bolster one of the nation’s top recruiting classes.
Williams, a 2025 five-star from Saraland, Ala. who is committed to Alabama, has announced his intent to reclassify and join the team ahead of the 2024 season. The decision comes after he visited the Crimson Tide last weekend after competing in Tuscaloosa in the Class 6A state championship game.
Williams, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound prospect, is ranked the No. 4 player nationally in the 2025 class according to 247Sports. He is the second-highest-ranked wide receiver commitment ever at Alabama after Julio Jones (who ranked No. 3 in the nation) in 2008.
His commitment gives Alabama three receiver commitments in the 2024 class along with four-stars Amari Jefferson and Rico Scott. Currently, Alabama’s 2024 class is ranked No. 4 nationally with 20 commitments (not including Williams).
A rare prospect
Reclassification isn’t common due to the multi-pronged demands of enrolling into college a full year early, especially at a program like Alabama. Williams’ decision is an early indication of how highly the staff thinks of him to sign off on the idea. A quick glance at his high school resume shows why he’s being afforded this opportunity.
Williams became the first sophomore to win Mr. Football in Alabama following the 2022 season. In his breakout campaign, Williams caught 88 passes for 1,641 yards and 24 touchdowns.
