Former Everton defender Frank D’Arcy has finally been presented with his 1969/70 League Championship medal.
D’Arcy made five appearances during the Blues’ title-winning campaign which, until recently, meant he didn’t qualify for a medal at the end of that season.
However, the Football League recently altered the eligibility conditions and Everton moved quickly to order and pay for gongs for D’Arcy, Roger Kenyon (also 69/70), Paul Wilkinson (84/85) and Warren Aspinall (86/87).
D’Arcy is the last of the four to accept his medal, presented to him at home by 1986/87 title-winner Ian Snodin.
“I was delighted when the Club told me I was due a medal,” said D’Arcy. “It’s been a long time coming but I’ve got it now and it means everything to me. They were great days and to have been part of an Everton squad that won the title is something I am very proud of.”
In total, D’Arcy made 18 senior appearances for Everton after being a part of the team that won the FA Youth Cup in 1964/65 alongside the likes of John Hurst and Jimmy Husband.
He made his senior team debut at Elland Road against Leeds United in 1966 when Harry Catterick played a much-changed team a week prior to an FA Cup semi-final. Derek Smith and Gerry Humphreys also made their bows that day.
After leaving Everton, D’Arcy had a brief spell with Tranmere Rovers and then moved into non-league football with Kirkby Town.
