Andy Burnham sends TWO ‘serious’ QUESTIONS to Premier League CEO Richard Masters

Everton are lucky that, in their hour of need, quite a few high-profile figures have rushed to their defence.

Having been deducted ten points over two weeks ago now, such injustice shocked the footballing world, which had never seen such a harsh sanction upheld in the Premier League.

It was a punishment that exceeded that earned for entering administration and left the masses gobsmacked.

Whilst a few pundits would express their displeasure, it was unlikely to be enough to spark any real change. However, in Andy Burnham’s case, this is far more than just fighting for what is right.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester is a boyhood blue and still has a season ticket in the Gwladys Street today, and so for him, this battle is waged with both his head and his heart.

Having penned one impassioned letter to the Premier League, a reply came not too long after.

Well, he has once again vocalised his latest letter, in which he poses two key questions to the Premier League’s CEO Richard Masters after highlighting two weaknesses in the ruling that condemned Everton.

He wrote: ‘I can assure you it was not my intention to seek to engage you in protracted correspondence on this matter. had hoped you would be able to provide me with enough reassurance to leave things there.

‘However, if anything, having read your letter carefully, I am now more concerned about the Premier League’s handling of Everton’s case… This raises serious issues.’

Then comes the questions: ‘Will you publish the minutes of the Premier League Board of 10 August? Will you publish the full version of Mr Masters’ witness statement, including section 7?’

Will Everton get relegated?
Much of the talk following their points deduction was surrounding their ability to rally and rise from the ashes to safety once again.

After all, having sat 14th and eight points clear of the relegation zone, their punishment sent them down to joint-bottom of the Premier League.

Then, with Burnley winning before Everton’s clash with Nottingham Forest, there was a brief period where the Toffees sat alone at the foot of the table.

However, having claimed a victory of their own, they are once again just two points from safety with two home games to come in just one week.

Whilst neither Newcastle United nor Chelsea will give them an easy match, there marks an ample opportunity to get their form at Goodison Park back on track with a couple of decent results.

Should they manage this, and those around them continue to falter, it might mark a far easier task than first thought for Sean Dyche’s men to avoid the drop.
