Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana tipped for Manchester United moves after £300m Everton news emerges
Manchester United could take advantage of a potential Everton financial situation by signing Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana, according to the Express journalist Charlie Parker-Turner.
The verdict comes after Burnley, Leeds United and Leicester City confirmed their intention to sue the Toffees for £300million [Daily Mail, 17 November].
The potential lawsuit comes after Everton were found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial fair play rules [BBC Sport, 17 November].
“Manchester United could look to capitalise on Everton’s recent issues by pursuing several of their most valuable stars,” Parker-Turner wrote for the Express (19 November).
“If the clubs are successful in suing Everton, it is expected to shake Sean Dyche’s side to the core – and selling players would be one of the key ways that they could raise funds – which could be music to the ears of several clubs.
“Jarrad Branthwaite is among those to have been linked with United, and the young centre-back could now be attainable. The Red Devils could also be tempted to reignite their interest in Amadou Onana if it becomes clear that Everton are set to face immense financial difficulties.”
Everyone associated with Everton will still be feeling the effects of the recent 10-point deduction, and they will be for quite some time.
Perhaps some form of punishment was expected at Goodison Park, but the powers that be may not have seen that exact punishment coming.
It has certainly caused a lot of anger and confusion on Merseyside, particularly given how some of the club’s Premier League rivals have avoided punishment thus far for much worse crimes.
And it could have a lasting effect on Everton, who really are in danger of losing their star men given their already perilous financial situation.
They have managed to keep hold of their key men thus far, having avoided major sales in the summer transfer window.
But perhaps January could be a different reality, which would be a real shame given how important both Branthwaite and Onana are to Toffees manager Sean Dyche.
