Leicester City defender Conor Coady shares verdict on Everton points deduction

Former Everton defender Conor Coady does not believe the points deduction will have any sort of impact on the Toffees’ dressing room.

The Toffees will return to action next weekend 10 points worse off than they were at full-time of the 3-2 win at Crystal Palace last week.

That is down to the club being found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial rules, as announced on Friday (17 November).

Coady, who spent last season on loan at Goodison Park, expects his former team-mates to simply get on with things when they return to action.

Speaking to Sky Sports News [18 November, 19:37], Coady said: “It’s kind of hard to stand here now because I don’t know the ins and outs of it, I’ll be honest.

“I’m a football player and as a footballer you don’t really look too much into what’s going on inside clubs.

“As players you get on with it and I’m sure the Everton players will be doing that now. It is what it is, it’s out and I’m sure they’re dealing with it in the right way.

“You can’t effect it as footballers. They’ll be saying the same thing. They’ve had a good start to the season and I don’t think it will effect them as a team. They’ll be looking at it now and try to kick on after the international break.”

Different mindset

Having done so well to put distance between themselves and the bottom three, Everton find themselves back in the relegation zone through no fault of the players or coaching staff.

However, it is now ultimately on them to get the club back over the right side of the dotted line and ensure we remain in the Premier League beyond this season.

While Coady has a point with what he says, the mindset of the players must surely change as a result of this outcome.

From playing with the pressure off against Palace, which was clear to see, they will now enter the game with Manchester United next Sunday (19 November) knowing what is at stake.

There is plenty of the season to go for Everton to turn things around, but if they still find themselves in the vicinity of the dropzone come the final stretch of the season, then the pressure will certainly be on.

On the basis of what we have seen over the past month, though, this squad is capable of stringing together a positive run of form to ensure that is not the case.
