Alex Caruso might just end up playing for the team that he once helped beat in the NBA Finals.
Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports recently spoke with an anonymous Eastern Conference executive who said that the Miami Heat are eyeing the Chicago Bulls guard Caruso as a potential trade target.
“They need a guard in the worst way,” the exec said of the Heat. “They have got to be concerned, and if the Bulls let it be known that Alex Caruso can be traded, they’d have to be the first in line. He is a [Miami head coach] Erik Spoelstra kind of guy all the way. They have an eye on him, for sure.”
While he averages less than eight points and three assists per game, Caruso is arguably the NBA’s premier role player and indisputably one of the NBA’s best and smartest all-around defenders.
A recent video breakdown of Caruso’s defense on the much-taller Kevin Durant gave a great idea of the Bulls guard’s unmatched impact on that end of the floor.
As for why the Bulls would ever want to move Caruso, who is also shooting a flaming 44% from three-point range this season, it would mainly be about maximizing trade value since they aren’t very good right now.
Chicago is 4-7 to start the season (with one total playoff victory in the last six years), and it seems like they have hit their ceiling with their current core. That has naturally led to rampant trade speculation, not only on Caruso but on many other major names on the roster as well.
On Miami’s end, they are extremely thin in the backcourt with Gabe Vincent leaving in free agency this past summer and Tyler Herro now injured once again. That leaves just the journeyman Josh Richardson, the little-known Dru Smith and the geriatric Kyle Lowry to carry the load at guard.
Caruso, who is on a steal of a contract in the third year of a four-year, $37M deal, would probably cost Miami someone of similar talent on a similarly good contract (like a Caleb Martin).
But with the Heat failing on multiple high-profile trade fronts over the last several months, a more modest acquisition like Caruso might be exactly the way to go for them.

Warriors forward Draymond Green will be suspended five games by the NBA for his role in Tuesday’s altercation in Minnesota, as Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was the first to report. The NBA has officially confirmed Green’s five-game suspension. After Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels engaged in some grabbing, pushing, and shoving that resulted in a stoppage in play early in the first quarter of Tuesday’s game, Green entered the fracas and put Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a headlock for several seconds. The NBA also announced $25K fines for Thompson, McDaniels and Gobert. As a result of the five-game ban, Green will miss the Warriors’ games against the Thunder on Thursday and Saturday, as well as their contests versus Houston (Nov. 20), Phoenix (Nov. 22),and San Antonio (Nov. 24). That game against the Spurs is an in-season tournament matchup. Golden State is also without top scorer Stephen Curry in the short term due to a sore right knee. Curry has been ruled out for Thursday’s game against the Thunder and is expected to be reevaluated later this week. The suspension will cost Green a total of $769,704, or $153,941 per game, per ESPN’s Bobby Marks. His salary for the 2022-23 season is $22,321,429, and he’ll forfeit 1/145th of that salary for each game of the suspension.

Jets’ Robert Saleh shares massive Aaron Rodgers return update
It sounds like the New York Jets won’t shut quarterback Aaron Rodgers down as long as he wants to play again before the club’s season ends. “Aaron’s a big boy, a grown man, and no one’s going to know Aaron’s body like Aaron knows his body,” Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters on Wednesday, per Rich Cimini of ESPN. “And if he feels after all the doctors clear him — I’m sure there’s a million of them, I have no idea — but if Aaron says he wants to play, he’s going to play.” Rodgers continues to baffle outsiders and even spark conspiracy theories with the remarkable recovery he’s made from the torn Achilles he suffered in Week 1. With that said, the future Hall of Famer who turns 40 years old on Dec. 2 suggested during a Tuesday appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he is at least “three or four weeks” away from possibly taking the field. The 4-5 Jets plays at the 5-5 Buffalo Bills this coming Sunday. “The pressure to keep the season afloat is just to keep it afloat,” Saleh said about the Jets attempting to remain in postseason contention until Rodgers can return atop the depth chart in place of temporary starter Zach Wilson. “The pressure to go to the playoffs is always pressure. It’s not for any one individual. It’s not for any possibility. It’s for competitors who want to win football games, and I think Aaron’s just the icing.” Without Rodgers, the Jets have scored eight offensive touchdowns over nine games and zero over their past 11 quarters of play. Jets star wide receiver Garrett Wilson revealed during a Tuesday radio interview that he and others participated in a players-only meeting following this past Sunday’s 16-12 loss at the Las Vegas Raiders “to make sure we’re all on the same page about where we’re at and how the hell we get out of this funk.” Rodgers plans to rejoin the Jets full-time ahead of their home game against the Miami Dolphins (6-3) on Nov. 24. “I have an admiration for him,” Saleh added about Rodgers. “We’re very young on the offensive side of the ball and his veteran presence is always welcome. [He’ll be able to] just get himself back in the building, get reacclimated around his teammates, re-involved in meetings. Then whenever his clock starts, it starts — if he’s able.” As of Wednesday afternoon, oddschecker listed the Jets as seven-point underdogs for Sunday’s matchup at Buffalo’s Highmark Stadium.

Rob Gronkowski has wild suggestion for Patriots’ Mac Jones, Browns
New England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski has a solution for how the club and quarterback Mac Jones could deal with their supposed fractured relationship this fall. “I think Mac Jones should ultimately, even right now, should just go and ask for his release,” Gronkowski said during Wednesday’s edition of the FanDuel TV “Up Adams” program, per Lauren Campbell of MassLive. “If you’re talking to me about what he should do: Ask for his release. And then if it gets granted, he should go sign with the Cleveland Browns and start a new career right there. They need a new quarterback. Imagine that. How wild would that be?” This past April, Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe suggested that Jones should’ve requested a trade after his name was repeatedly mentioned in rumors regarding alleged drama involving head coach Bill Belichick. Belichick has since benched Jones on three occasions this season, most recently late in this past Sunday’s 10-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, and it was reported Wednesday that the 25-year-old has lost a “‘vast majority’ of players” in the locker room due his poor play. Meanwhile, Browns starter Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending shoulder injury this past weekend. The 6-3 Browns are turning to rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson for this coming Sunday’s home game against the 6-3 Pittsburgh Steelers after he was downright awful in his first start earlier this fall. “He’s got some weapons around him (with the Browns), and that would determine if Mac Jones is the real deal or not,” Gronkowski continued. “I think he’s a decent quarterback. I think he’ll definitely be in the NFL for a little bit, even if it’s going to be as a backup for a little bit and then a starter once again.” Gronkowski’s idea makes for fun Internet chatter and an interesting “Madden” video-game scenario but ignores the fact that the Patriots have no reason to release Jones for nothing when they could shop him to other clubs once the new league year opens in March. As for the Browns, Jake Trotter and Seth Walder of ESPN mentioned Wednesday that Cleveland can’t escape the five-year, $230M contract the franchise gave Watson in March 2022 anytime soon.

At 6-foot-5, 315 pounds, Nasir Johnson is a big-time defensive lineman prospect – literally. He’s ranked as the No. 14 defensive lineman in the 2024 class as well as a Top-75 recruit, per 247Sports. Johnson was a massive – again, literally – part of Florida’s 2024 class, having committed in June of 2023, but that’s a commitment that no longer holds. The big defensive lineman has flipped his commitment from Florida to the Georgia Bulldogs and for him, it’s all about what Kirby Smart’s staff can do for him development-wise. “I just feel like since UGA has the better background with producing and developing,” Johnson told On3. “I would be better off there and want to be developed to the point where I’m league ready by the time I leave college. I wanna be another one of those first-round draft picks that Georgia is producing.” Getting defensive players ready at an NFL level is an argument Florida just can’t make right now, at least in comparison to what Smart has going on in Athens.
