Everton’s operations over the summer were desperately important in ensuring the squad was strong enough not only to have a fine first XI, but the depth to allow star men to rest with little drop-off.

Going from Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Neal Maupay last season marked a disastrous backup, and one which failed miserably at every occasion.

The former Sheffield United man is an integral figure, and has been for so many managers before Sean Dyche. However, his injury problems were unrelenting, and something had to give.

Rafa Benitez would run the Englishman into the ground before allowing him a rest, whilst Frank Lampard barely saw any of him due to further mismanagement.

The former Burnley boss is the first to actually allow him to be sidelined appropriately, with their £30m acquisition of Beto providing that much-needed relief which has seemingly allowed him to return to full fitness.

However, that’s not to suggest that the Portuguese marksman will be content to now take a back seat, with his love for the club well-documented, and physical assets there for all to see.

Having detailed his longstanding affiliation with the Toffees, the 25-year-old would showcase that once again on Saturday, with videos emerging of the forward signing along with the away support’s rendition of ‘Spirit of the Blues’.

Whilst he may have joined for a huge fee, there is actually surprisingly little pressure on the former Udinese man, given Calvert-Lewin’s return to form.

His chances have therefore been sparse, limited largely to short cameos in the Premier League.

However, there have been glimpses of the immense talent purchased, with his pace and finishing prowess showcased in his EFL Cup goal against Doncaster Rovers, before he then busted out his quick feet and creativity to produce a miraculous assist vs Burnley in the same competition.

An average of 38 minutes per game in the league is hardly enough to give a fair indication of his talents, but those cup cameos should leave Everton fans feeling safe in the knowledge that, should the worst happen to their number nine again, a willing and capable backup who matches his physical profile is waiting to further endear himself to the fanbase.
