UPDATE:Chelsea now looking to sign ‘fantastic’

Chelsea now looking to sign ‘fantastic’ £75m defender next summer

Chelsea will potentially look at re-signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

That is according to a report from The Sun.

It claims that both Chelsea and Manchester United will eventually look at signing Marc Guehi — while some clubs are interested now — with everything pointing towards a bidding war taking place next summer rather than in January.

TEAMtalk recently claimed that Palace want a fee of around £75m for the centre-back.

Chelsea sold Guehi to Palace back in 2021, with the 23-year-old not getting many first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge, but he is still grateful for what the club have done for him.

“I was at the club for so long — since I was seven years old,” Guehi was quoted as saying by Goal after his move. “I am extremely grateful for everyone who has helped me get so far and it’s because of them that I’m here.”

Chelsea to consider re-signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace

It does look like Chelsea are in for a new central defender, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Blues will sign one at some point in 2024.

According to The Sun, Guehi could be an option and he would not be a terrible one.

The England international, who was recently hailed as “fantastic” by Alan Shearer on The Rest Is Football, is proving to be a top defender.
This season, he is making 4.6 clearances per game, the second-highest average in Palace’s squad (WhoScored). The former Chelsea man is showing that he is a centre-half who can deal with danger.

Right now, we do not think Guehi actually has to be a priority for Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine currently has Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah all in his squad.

Of course, the futures of a couple of those players are uncertain, while Fofana’s injury record will be a concern.

Nevertheless, until there actually are exits, Chelsea really do not need to be chasing Guehi regardless of how good he has become.
