£35m Wolves man will surely be concerned with what O’Neil is planning to do
It has been reported that Wolves manager Gary O’Neil is keen to sign a new striker in January – and this news may come as a concern to Fabio Silva.
The Telegraph have claimed that the Molineux head coach is going to make the signing of a proper number nine a priority in the next transfer window.
Supposedly, the reason for this is so that Matheus Cunha would then be able to have more of a free role in the final third. The Brazilian has been leading the line for Wolves and, arguably, it is not really the position he is best in.
Cunha is a fantastic ball carrier and is seemingly a better fit to play behind a main striker, not as one himself – as good a season as he’s had so far.
So O’Neil is looking to bring in a fresh face in January.
And this may set some alarm bells ringing for Fabio Silva, who has been struggling for minutes recently at Molineux…

Clearly then, he is not totally satisfied with his current pool of options at Molineux.
There had been a lot of talk about Silva in the summer and if he would be sticking around, following his loan spells at Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven last season.
Seemingly, he was open to leaving. His agent had actually said that the youngster wanted to go.
But Matt Hobbs is said to have played a big role in making Silva feel valued and helping to keep him at the club.
O’Neil suggested Silva would pay a big role for him this season. But lately, Silva has barely featured for Wanderers.
He’s made just two cameo appearances during Wolves’ five-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, worth a total of eight minutes of time on the pitch.
He’s way down the pecking order right now, with Cunha and Sasa Kalajdzic both ahead of him.

Even against Luton, with Wolves down to ten men, O’Neil stuck a tiring Pedro Neto up top rather than turn to Silva as a potential outlet.
The report that O’Neil will prioritise a new striker is bound to be a little concerning for Silva – who assumed Raul Jimenez’s old number number shirt – considering his recent level of involvement.
We will see what transpires, but this is now a crucial period for him. He has the try and force his way back into the starting XI in the weeks leading up to January. Ideally, he’ll prove himself as the striker O’Neil wants.
Should a new striker come in, then it’s very possible we could see Silva head out on loan or perhaps even be sold.
