Callum Wilson shares what Wolves centre-back said to him after Newcastle were given penalty on Saturday

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has now shared a conversation he had with a Wolves centre-back before taking his penalty on Saturday.

Wilson was speaking on the ‘Footballer’s Football Podcast’ and detailed what was said when Newcastle were awarded the controversial penalty.

Wolves’ Hwang Hee-chan was penalised for a foul on Fabian Schar, but there are still doubts as to how much contact was made.

And given how long the penalty took to be awarded to Newcastle, Wilson has now shared the chats he was having with the Wolves players.

Wilson said: “While all that was going on I just took myself away and it felt like an eternity from the minute the whistle blew and he pointed to the spot to actually getting the ball on the spot.

“It must have been five minutes. I think in a stadium where there is all jeers and you have players trying to come up to me and talk to me.

“I had one of the centre-backs come up to me and say ‘do you think it was a penalty?’

“Just having conversation to be fair, he wasn’t really saying too much.

“And I was just like ‘big man don’t talk to me’ and walked away.

“And he was looking at me as if to say ‘what?’”

Wilson’s brace was only enough to earn a draw for Newcastle at Wolves

Of course, Hwang did atone for the incident with a goal soon after – even if he didn’t deserve to concede a penalty in the first place.

And the 27-year-old’s run of form is now catching a lot of attention.

Tottenham Hotspur were linked with the forward in the summer and may now regret not making their move.

But Wolves will now need to lean on Hwang even more with Pedro Neto now missing for the coming games.

Of course, Newcastle are dealing with a lot of injuries themselves.

And although the side are very confident with the business they did in the summer – they believed they signed two future England internationals, they may now be slightly short of numbers.

Wilson’s brace was a timely reminder of his quality against Wolves, and Newcastle will now need their striker to pull them through the next few weeks.
