Ally McCoist shocked by what position £21m Tottenham man was playing in yesterday

Ally McCoist admitted that he was very surprised with the position Tottenham Hotspur defender Destiny Udogie was taking up against Fulham last night.

McCoist was covering the match for TalkSPORT (24/10 8:23pm) and witnessed another impressive win for Spurs.

Destiny Udogie isn’t a new signing this season but has only just been introduced to the team after spending last season on loan at Udinese.

Ally McCoist has admitted he was shocked at where Udogie was ending up on the pitch against Fulham yesterday.

The £21m defender is going from strength to strength and looks to have adapted seamlessly to a completely new role this campaign.

Speaking about the Italian defender, McCoist said: “I’m looking at [Destiny] Udogie’s starting position as well when Tottenham have got it in kind of a back three.

“He’s actually playing in a kind of the left-hand side of a number 10 position.

“He’s so far up the pitch, it’s incredible.”

Udogie didn’t quite make it to the hour mark last night after picking up a knock and was replaced by Emerson Royal.

The Italian’s athleticism allows him to get up and down the pitch so quickly, but his footballing intelligence needs to be praised.

He’s already provided two assists in advanced positions and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him on the score sheet soon as he found the back of the net eight times over the last two seasons.

McCoist may have been surprised by Udogie’s positioning against Fulham, but Spurs fans are very used to seeing him pop up at the top of the pitch.

He’s become a key part of Postecoglou’s system and has been recognised back in his homeland after being awarded his international debut last week.
