‘Fantastic’ – Darren Bent throws West Ham star into debate live

West Ham United ace James Ward-Prowse namechecked in ‘best signing’ debate live on talkSPORT
West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse was named by Darren Bent as a candidate for the best signing of the summer in a debate on talkSPORT.
Ward-Prowse has scored two goals and assisted five more in six appearances for West Ham since joining from Southampton in a £30million deal last month.
After praising Dominik Szoboszlai’s impressive start to life at Liverpool, Bent was asked by Andy Goldstein to give his thoughts on the best buy among Premier League clubs in the most recent window.

In reply, the former England international said [28 September]: “[James] Maddison has been very good; Ward-Prowse has been fantastic.”
A strong shout
Those who questioned West Ham’s decision to spend a fairly sizable sum to sign a player from the Championship have certainly been silenced over the past few weeks.
Ward-Prowse has made a huge impact already in terms of both dead-ball deliveries and his general quality from open play, whether he is setting up a goal or scoring them himself.
As for the debate regarding the best signing of the summer, the fact Ward-Prowse cost half of what Liverpool paid for Szoboszlai, and around £10m less than Maddison at Spurs, the playmaker is in with a serious shout.
It is proving to be money well spent by the Hammers, with JWP following in the steps of Jarrod Bowen and others in showing relegation from the Premier League does not have to define your career.
There is still plenty of the campaign to go, of course, so let’s just hope he remains in the debate a few months from now.
