Report: La Liga side moving for Spurs player in January is now a ‘real possibility’

Estadio Deportivo have claimed that the option of joining Real Betis will very much remain open to Giovani Lo Celso in January.

Over the past week and a half, we have relayed multiple updates from Spain backing Betis to reignite their interest in Lo Celso (Fichajes).

However, Fabrizio Romano clarified a couple of days ago that Tottenham have not made a decision on the Argentine’s future yet and that Ange Postecoglou was keen for him to stay in the summer (CaughtOffside).

Betis remain open to Lo Celso’s return
Estadio Deportivo have now provided a more detailed explanation of Betis’ pursuit of Lo Celso, explaining that the La Liga side contacted the player’s entourage in the summer.

It is revealed that while the 27-year-old viewed the possibility of returning to his former stomping ground ‘favourably’ and was even ‘excited’ about it, Postecoglou was clear to the Spurs hierarchy that he wanted to keep the midfielder at the club.

The outlet adds that Betis ‘will always be open’ to signing the player and are expected to ‘return’ in January.

It is explained that while the La Liga club are not making any advances for Lo Celso at the moment, it is ‘clear’ that a reunion with the Spurs man is a ‘possibility’ that is ‘real’ when the transfer window reopens.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do expect Tottenham to listen to offers for Lo Celso in January as the midfielder would only have 18 months left on his contract at the time.

Brennan Johnson is capable of operating in the number eight role if there is an injury to Maddison, which is why the Argentine might be surplus to requirements.
