Bayern Munich chief makes Harry Kane statement amid Tottenham buyback revelation

Harry Kane has hit the ground running at Bayern Munich this season, scoring five goals in his first six appearances across all competitions

Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund remained coy when he was quizzed on the comments recently made by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, who claimed the Lilywhites have a buy-back option for Harry Kane. The 30-year-old striker joined the German giants in the summer for £100million, signing a four-year contract at the Allianz Arena.

Speaking at a Fan Forum earlier this week, a Spurs supporter asked Levy if there is a buy-back clause in Kane’s deal with Bayern. “Of course,” the chairman responded.

Then, in a subsequent interview with Bloomberg, Levy confirmed that Tottenham have the ability to re-sign the England international. He said: “The actual precise detail of the contract with Bayern Munich should remain confidential.

“All I would say is if that one day Harry wanted to come back to the Premier League, and he wanted to come to Tottenham, we would have the ability to purchase him.”

Then, following Bayern’s 4-3 win over Manchester United in their Champions League group stage opener, Freund aimed a subtle, thinly-veiled dig at Levy and insisted that the Bavarians don’t disclose contract details. Speaking to DAZN, as quoted by Bulinews, the Bundesliga champions’ sporting director said: “We never talk about contract details.

“Harry is here, he left England with conviction for the first time. We have a four-year contract with him. We are very, very happy and are planning for the long term with him at Bayern. He will shape this team and an era here. I’m convinced of that. He feels very comfortable and has big goals for Bayern in the coming years.”

While it would have been sad for Tottenham fans to see their beloved club legend leave the club, they’re doing just fine without him. Ange Postecoglou has done a fantastic job with Spurs so far this season, with Son Heung-min seamlessly slotting into the No.9 role in Kane’s absence.
