Liverpool decided not to sign him barcelona now really want ‘colossal’ player, just weeks after
Barcelona are keen on signing Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi on a free transfer.
Despite plenty of interest in him this summer, Ndidi ended up staying at Leicester, where he’s currently playing in the Championship.
One of the sides said to be eyeing him as recently as the end of August were in fact Liverpool. As they searched for the right player to complete their midfield rebuild, the Reds reportedly weighed up – and ultimately turned down – an approach for the Nigerian.
According to Spanish outlet Sport though, Liverpool won’t be the last big side to have Ndidi in mind. They claim that the 26-year-old is being eyed by Barcelona, who reportedly tried to sign him several years ago.
It’s claimed that while at that time Leicester were looking for around £61m to sell Ndidi, he’ll be available for nothing at the end of his contract next summer.

Given that they’re in a precarious financial situation, Barca are said to be ‘paying attention’ to the Bosman market. This is claimed to be making Ndidi an attractive option.
As well as Barcelona and Liverpool, Bayern Munich also reportedly had a go at signing the Leicester man recently. However, the German side were also said to be put off by the Foxes asking-price. With that no longer a problem in 2024, it’s claimed that Ndidi will be one of the most ‘desirable’ players in next year’s market.

There were no doubt a few eye rolls when stories emerged of Liverpool’s potential interest in Ndidi in August.
However, it should be remembered that the Nigeria international was much-coveted just a short while ago. Still only 26, Ndidi was one of the Premier League’s outstanding holding midfielders between 2017 and 2020.
His emergence in Leicester’s midfield was one of the reasons the Foxes didn’t miss the mercurial N’Golo Kante quite as much as they might have.
Liverpool themselves should know this all too well. They’ve been on the end of Ndidi’s dominating performances more than once.
Back in February 2021, the Reds succumbed to a 3-1 defeat the King Power Stadium. That day, then manager Brendan Rodgers described his midfielder’s performance as being ‘colossal’ [The i].
Those displays were the norm for Ndidi over a handful of really promising years.
Having drifted a little over the past couple of seasons, the former Genk man seems to be flourishing again in the Championship. Liverpool may get a reminder of just how good he can be at Anfield tonight. One to perhaps keep half an eye on, this.
