Tottenham Hotspur signing Luka Vuskovic has been compared to Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol after securing his move to North London.
Luka Vuskovic has the potential to become like Josko Gvardiol having committed his future to Tottenham Hotspur.
That is the view of Hajduk Split legend Zoran Vulic, who has been speaking to Sportske Novosti about Vuskovic.
After weeks of speculation, Tottenham have now confirmed the signing of Hajduk Split talent Vuskovic.
Vuskovic is only 16, so can’t actually join up with Spurs until 2025, but Tottenham have moved quickly to get him snapped up.
How much have Tottenham paid for Luka Vuskovic?
The Athletic report that Tottenham have agreed to pay £12million for Vuskovic, which is a considerable outlay for a 16-year-old.
Vuskovic has already been playing first-team games in Croatia though, showing enormous potential.
Tottenham seemingly believe that Vuskovic can become a Premier League star and are investing for the future.
Vuskovic can now follow in the footsteps of Luka Modric, Vedran Corluka and Niko Kranjcar in terms of a Croatian player featuring for Spurs.
The move has understandably made big headlines over in Croatia with Vuskovic now heading to the Premier League – eventually, anyway.
Former Hajduk player and manager Zoran Vulic – who is claimed to have ‘worked individually’ with Vuskovic – has now commented on the move.
Vulic has suggested to Sportske Novosti that Vuskovic has a simply ‘exceptional’ feeling for the ball and played down fears about his speed.
Vulic even compared Vuskovic to Josko Gvardiol, seemingly believing that he has the potential to become just like the £78million Manchester City defender and fellow Croatian.
That’s a lofty comparison given Gvardiol’s reputation but Vulic seemingly believes that Tottenham have secured a real star.
“What he has inside him is an exceptional feeling for the ball,” said Vulic. “Many say that he and his brother lack speed, but I don’t know who is the fastest stopper in the world. Next to today’s fast, light strikers, stout stoppers have little chance. The Vušković family plays football with their head, and there are really few of them. I would not like to burden Luka with big announcements, but I have to put him in the category of players like Gvardiol and Sutalo. That’s how I see his future, given that I know his physical and mental abilities,” he added.
