David Weir rules out off-pitch Everton return after agreeing surprise France move
David Weir has long been linked with a return to Everton, but the Scot has decided to make a surprise move elsewhere.
There are more than a few familiar faces in the Everton dugout these days.
David Moyes returned for a second spell as Toffees boss in January, and brought Alan Irvine back to the club as part of his coaching staff.
Toffees hero Leighton Baines is also working alongside Moyes, meaning the coaching staff completely understand life at Everton.

David Weir rules out Everton return once and for all
One off-the-pitch move has been swirling for a while, with David Weir also linked with an Everton return.
The Scot racked up more than 250 appearances for Everton during an eight-year spell at Goodison Park.
Weir turned to coaching and management before moving to Brighton and Hove Albion, eventually becoming their Technical Director.
Weir was heavily linked with Everton earlier in 2025, as he emerged as a potential replacement for Kevin Thelwell.

No deal materialised, even though Weir was interested in a return to Everton as he left Brighton.
Some have wondered whether Weir would still arrive at Everton at some point, especially after not appointing a direct successor to Thelwell.
However, Weir has now made a surprise move to join French club Strasbourg as their new Sporting Director.
Weir has begun work this weekend and will now play a key role under BlueCo, who own both Chelsea and Strasbourg.
An emotional return to Everton won’t be happening any time soon, though fans will keep tabs on his progress in France.
David Weir comments on Strasbourg move
Weir told Strasbourg’s official website that he is ‘convinced’ by the Strasbourg project and has been impressed by other staff members.
Weir is also excited to work alongside Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior, who has earned praise since leaving Hull City.
“It is a great honour to join Racing, a historic club with a strong identity and growing ambition,” said Weir.
“I was convinced by the project and the quality of the people already in place. I am eager to settle in Strasbourg and become fully involved in the life of Racing. I look forward to working with Liam and all the teams to contribute to Racing’s success this season and in the years to come,” he added.
BlueCo will want Strasbourg to make major strides in the coming years, and Weir will now play a vital role.
Everton may just keep tabs on Weir’s work in France, but a return to Merseyside won’t be happening any time soon.
