Everton fans have nailed their assessment of Idrissa Gana Gueye’s situation

Everton fans have been discussing Idrissa Gana Gueye’s performances this season, and they’re absolutely spot on in their assessment.

Idrissa Gana Gueye has been a revelation since returning to Everton and actually won the Player of the Season award last term.

Gueye was rewarded with a new two-year deal, which David Moyes actually pushed through as some inside the club weren’t totally convinced over the length of the contract.

The 36-year-old has started all nine games so far this season and now fans are starting to question whether he’s beginning to fade.

Everton fans question whether Idrissa Gana Gueye should be dropped
Everton fans have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice their concern over whether Gueye is slowing down.

Many are now urging Moyes to drop Gueye for Merlin Rohl.

@HutchTweeting replied: “His legs have gone at this level now, but isn’t this just what we do as a club? Cahill, Osman, Neville, Hibbert, Coleman, Campbell etc., all decent players for the club in their pomp, all stayed a season or so longer than their legs dictated they should have done.”

“100% mate but he gets away with it coz he scored in the derby (which was the only think he did before and after because he was the worst player on the pitch) Time to bring KDH back and get him a Rohl running the show,” @S44_Toffee added.

@Lj1878Jones explained: “Rohl needs more game time…he is likely to be the long-term successor to Gueye. Even TI (Tim Iroegbunam) has been performing well this season. Gueye disappears for the cup of nations so need to start bedding those two in now.”

@LythyNo2 commented: “He’s a 60 min man now, thereafter his legs won’t do the work he wants to do, hence the free kicks he gives away after that period of time. Rohl should definitely be starting and Tim should be Idrissa’s backup. Get Dibling on the wing, Grealish at 10 and Alcaraz in a front 3.”

“Think he needs a rest, drop KDH back replace with Alcaraz, Garner at right back and Rohl in for Garner O’Brien swap with either Tarkowski or Keane and Barry in for Beto. Would like this for the Southampton game but will see what Moyes does as we can all see this might work,” @leedwards11 said.

Everton fans are right about Merlin Rohl
Everton fans make a good point that Rohl should now be starting games, or at least, rotating with Gueye.

The Senegal international will be departing for the Africa Cup of Nations in December and could be away until January 18th – the date of the final.

So Rohl will need some game time before then to get up to speed and adjust to Moyes’ strict tactical demands.

Alan Myers was really impressed by Rohl’s cameo against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend and is certain he will become a top player for the Toffees.

Moyes has also liked what he’s seen from Rohl in training, so it’s only a matter of time before he becomes a regular.
