Youssef Chermiti moved to Rangers from the Toffees in the summer for £8million, and whoever sanctioned the deal should get a pat on their back.

The fee could rise to £10m, including add-ons, and the Gers’ current sporting director, Kevin Thelwell, thought it would make sense to spend that amount on a player who didn’t score and provide an assist in his two seasons at Goodison Park.
