Everton’s rank among English football’s biggest clubs after shameful Lee Dixon remark

Lee Dixon has shown serious naivety after disrespecting Everton.

Dixon suggested Jordan Pickford should leave Everton in midweek, as the keeper started in yet another victory on the international stage.

Pickford has long been England’s number one and has thrived in between the sticks under both Gareth Southgate and Thomas Tuchel.

The 31-year-old has also been a regular on Merseyside, with Pickford rarely linked with a move away from Everton throughout his eight-year spell in L4.

Despite this positivity, Dixon has taken issue with the Blues and has faced significant backlash from one of English football’s most historic clubs.

What did Lee Dixon say about Everton?
Pickford is eyeing Peter Shilton’s England clean sheet record and took one step closer to breaking it in the 5-0 win against Latvia on Tuesday.

The Toffees’ number one has continued to shine on the international stage and has been recognised as the nation’s best keeper since 2018.

The ex-Sunderland man has still stuck around at Goodison Park and carried his excellent form with him to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

As England beat Latvia, Dixon bizarrely questioned why Pickford had not joined a “bigger club” as he shared his “surprise” live on ITV 1.

Everton didn’t take this well, as they took to X to hit back at the former Arsenal man by highlighting the Merseyside club’s honours list.

Alongside this, they shared a caption reading: “Everton FC – a big club: past, present and future, Lee Dixon.“

The Evertonian faithful will back their side to the bitter end and have certainly let Dixon know what they make of his comments.

Having never been relegated from the Premier League, the Toffees are part of a unique club of top sides that have avoided the Championship.

Not only that, but Everton have the eighth most major honours in the history of English football with 24 across their 147-year history.
