Bayern Munich were desperate to land a striker before the transfer deadline, and they made an attempt to sign Franculino Gluda Dju.
The 21-year-old striker made a strong impression for FC Midtjylland, and he was reportedly linked with a move to a host of clubs, including Everton.
Transfer expert Matteo Moretto claimed that the Toffees and AS Roma were leading the race for his signature, but the move ultimately did not materialise.

Despite signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool, Bayern still needed to sign another striker or a wide attacker, and focused on signing Nick Woltemade.
After Woltemade moved to Newcastle United, Max Eberl was told that he could only sign an attacker on loan. The German giants shifted their attention towards signing Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea.
It appears that the German champions also showed interest in signing Dju, who scored 33 goals and provided nine assists in 73 appearances in the Danish Superliga.
Everton were among the clubs that showed interest in signing Dju, who could cost around €20m (£17m). Christian Falk informed CFBayern that Bayern did make a move for the young striker, but they did not commit to signing him permanently after the loan spell.
The Bild journalist said: “It is true that Bayern tried to get Franculino Gluda Djú at the end of the transfer window. It didn‘t work because Bayern just offered a loan and didn‘t want to buy him.”
Bayern managed to sign Nicolas Jackson on loan
Bayern initially agreed a loan deal to sign Jackson, who moved to Germany for his medical. However, Chelsea then decided to terminate the agreement following injury to Liam Delap.
It appeared that the Bavarian giants were completely out of the race for Jackson, although the player and his agent stayed in Munich as they had no intention of returning to London.
Talks re-opened in the final 24 hours of the transfer window, and Bayern secured Jackson’s signature on the deadline day, paying a loan fee of €16.5m.
Bayern have an obligation to buy the option at €80m (including the €16.5m loan fee), which becomes active only if Jackson plays for 40 games this season from the start.
Meanwhile, outspoken FC Bayern chief Uli Hoeneß has made it clear that there will definitely not be a permanent contract for Jackson.
