Liverpool legend makes Everton confession he’s ‘never told anyone’ ahead of Merseyside derby

Everton have seen yet another Liverpool legend admit he formerly played for the Toffees as a child.

Over the years, there have been plenty of Liverpool players to emerge as former Everton supporters or academy players.

Perhaps one of the main examples of this is Jamie Carragher, who makes no secret of his links to the blue half of Merseyside.

Carragher’s favourite strip is the Everton 1984/85 kit, which he grew up watching the Toffees dominate England in.

There are more examples of former Liverpool players having previous connections with the Blues.

Steven Gerrard was famously pictured wearing an Everton kit as a youngster posing alongside Everton’s silverware.

Just days before the Merseyside Derby, another Liverpool legend has told Everton News columnist Alan Myers that he previously played for the Toffees.

Robbie Fowler shares Everton past for the first time
Everton fans have vented their anger at Carragher recently over his inclusion in a mosaic being made at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Speaking on The Added Time podcast, Robbie Fowler told Myers that he actually has his own Everton links from his childhood career.

“Look, I grew up as an Everton fan. I think that’s common knowledge, but the first scout that came up to me was Jim Aspinall, who is sadly no longer with us, but he was adamant he wanted me to ply my trade at Liverpool,” Fowler admitted.

“I actually played a game for Everton. I was 14 and played an U18 game. I came on as a substitute, I was tiny when I was 14 and I think we won the game.

“So, I have actually worn a shirt for Everton, I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone this, but I have worn an Everton shirt and won a game at Bellefield.”

Fowler had admitted previously Everton wanted to sign him, but he shared for the very first time that he actually wore the strip.

Unfortunately for Everton, Fowler went on to score a number of goals against them over the years at Liverpool and his other clubs.

But it was not through a lack of trying that Fowler did not end up signing for the Toffees when he was a teenager.

“Everton were desperate for me. The Everton academy manager, Graham Smith, was sending me tickets for games, shorts signed by the players, shirts and he just really wanted me to go to Everton,” Fowler added.
