Everton and Burnley compensation case to begin this week
Everton supporters have been used to keeping up to date with legal battles off the pitch in recent seasons, and it looks like they will have to do so again.

According to reports from Mark Douglas in the i paper on 15 September, Burnley’s multi-million compensation claim against Everton is set to begin in London this week.
It is said that the case could have “huge ramifications” as legal experts watch on to see what happens.
Burnley are looking for £50million-plus in compensation after claiming their loss of revenue as a result of their relegation to the Championship back in 2022 was due to Everton gaining a sporting advantage by breaching PSR rules over three years.
Everton were famously hit with a 10-point deduction in November 2023, which was later lowered to six points
In the 2021/22 season, Burnley finished 18th on 35 points, whilst Everton finished 16th on 39 points
Meaning if the six points were deducted from the Blues in 2022, they would have been relegated instead of Burnley, and that is why they can make the claim
Supporters will be hoping there is a quick resolution to this case and it does not affect the side’s positive start to the season.

Paying a potential fine would be the lesser of two evils for Everton
Although no one associated with the club will want to fork out the compensation that Burnley was asking for, ultimately, if they have to, it will be worth it overall.
If the points deduction had been applied back in 2022, sending Everton down, the ramifications could have been catastrophic, especially with the club on the verge of moving to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Nowadays, relegation battles on Merseyside look to be a thing of the past for now as Jack Grealish and Co. will likely ensure Everton finish closer to the European positions in points tally as opposed to the bottom three.
