David Moyes’ decision not to turn to Dwight McNeil in Everton’s 0-0 draw at home to Aston Villa speaks volumes about his view of the English winger.

This was bad news for McNeil, who was a regular last season, managing an impressive tally of four goals and eight assists in 21 league games. He’s been handed just 19 minutes worth of action so far this term, and his limited game time suggests he will find himself up for sale in January or the 2026 summer transfer window.
McNeil has two years left on his contract, which puts the Toffees under pressure to cash in on him in the near future. He joined the club from Burnley in the summer of 2022 for £20m, and he’s gone on to make 105 appearances.

While the 25-year-old, purportedly earning £77,000 per week (via SalarySport), could be used centrally as he was for most of last season, he has little chance of displacing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall following his £28m arrival from Chelsea. He is a talented footballer who will undoubtedly want regular minutes at this stage of his career, and this simply can’t be offered by Moyes.

The Friedkin Group will only be looking to strengthen further if Moyes continues to deliver in the dugout. They had reportedly held talks with Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin (above) before signing Rohl, and the Belgian could be on the agenda again in the winter amid his frustrating start to the season at Ibrox.
