€30m clause route for Everton after official offer from Toffees rejected – Sport Witness
Everton, Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers were among the clubs who failed to sign Espanyol’s Omar El Hilali in the summer window.
Earlier this month, we covered claims from Spain that Espanyol rejected proposals from Everton, Nottingham Forest and Wolves for El Hilali.
Wednesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo provides more on what’s needed for Everton or another club to sign the right-back.
The newspaper claims the Toffees, Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Como tabled official bids, with the Serie A club’s €14m offer being the highest. The La Liga club turned down all proposals and had referred to his then release clause of €25m.
According to Mundo, the fullback’s clause was contracted increase by €5m when he made his debut for Morocco.
On Monday, the 21-year-old made his debut when he off the bench in Morocco’s 2-0 World Cup qualifiers victory over Zambia. With that, his buyout clause at Espanyol has now been raised to €30m.
If Everton, Nottingham Forest, Wolves or another club want to sign El Hilali, Mundo report they will have to pay €30m.
David Moyes currently has Saamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson as the two recognised right-backs at his disposal.
Coleman, 36, is in his final year of contract and Patterson has been sidelined with an injury since August, forcing Moyes to move centre-back Jake O’Brien to the right side of defence this season.
