Rangers want to seal Youssef Chermiti transfer as Thelwell eyes Everton agreement

Everton striker Youssef Chermiti has emerged as a potential new signing for Rangers.

Russell Martin‘s side are in desperate need of fresh attacking talent, as they find themselves four points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership already.

It has been an underwhelming start despite 10 new signings already coming through the door, with Martin facing sack pressure after just two months at Rangers.

Given the uncertainty surrounding Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers’ Ibrox future and the need for goals, it makes sense that they are in the market for a number nine.

Kevin Thelwell eyes Everton agreement for Youssef Chermiti

Kevin Thelwell has not yet looked to Everton for transfer dealings since he was appointed at Ibrox, but that may be about to change.

A report from Rangers Review on 23 August claims that Chermiti is under consideration as a potential option if the Gers decide to bring in another striker.

The move makes sense as Thelwell knows the Portuguese attacker from his time at Goodison Park.

Who is Rangers target Youssef Chermiti?

Chermiti is a 21-year-old striker who started his career in the Sporting academy, making 10 appearances for their B team between 2021 and 2023.

He was then promoted to the senior set-up, featuring 16 times for the first-team, with three goals to his name.

He moved to the Toffees in August 2023 and has played 22 times for the Hill Dickinson Stadium outfit, with injury issues plaguing his time on Merseyside.

Strengths:

Physicality: Chermiti stands at 6’3 and has an imposing frame

Combative: Difficult to get the ball from and contributes defensively

Holding: Chermiti can help his team keep possession, is strong with his back to goal

Weaknesses:

Finishing: Needs to become more composed in front of goal

Limited senior experience: Has not played too much at senior level

Tight spaces: Not comfortable in tight spaces, needs work

Chermiti has two caps for the Portugal Under-21 team, having represented his nation throughout the youth ranks.

It would be a gamble to bring Chermiti in as he does not have the best record, but given the standard of Scottish football, he could be a worthwhile addition.
