Paul Merson makes ‘lorry load’ prediction for Everton vs Spurs, decides exciting scoreline

Everton will welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Goodison Park on Saturday with the plan being to escape the relegation zone.

The Toffees come into the fixture against Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs side off the back of a 0-0 draw with Fulham, although with VAR playing a big part, Everton will feel they deserved more there.

Now though they’re facing a different level of opponent in Spurs, but despite that, Sean Dyche should be quietly confident with Goodison no doubt likely to be up for this one.

A win or draw would suit Everton with a point being enough to claw themselves out of the relegation zone, albeit before Luton has the chance to put them back in.

Now, ahead of the game, Paul Merson has shared his prediction for the game, and it’s likely to please Everton fans.

Paul Merson predicts Everton vs Tottenham
Writing in his weekly SportsKeeda column, Merson shared his prediction over what he sees transpiring as Spurs visit Goodison Park. In doing so, admitted he’s finding it tough to pick between the two sides.

“Everton are suddenly in the relegation zone, so this is a crucial game for them. Tottenham had a great 10-15 minute spell to turn the game on its head against Brentford, but the way they play, they tend to leave a lot of open space at the back.

“This is a really interesting game of football and judging by the way Tottenham play, I think we’re going to see a few goals. James Maddison’s return has been a big boost for them – it’s as good as a January signing for Ange Postecoglou. You can see the way he lifts the fans and everyone around him – he was fantastic against Brentford after the manager put him in the hole behind Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison in the second half.”

Merson then concluded with his score prediction which will please many Evertonians.

“I can see a lorry load of goals here, so I’m going for a 2-2 draw.”

Everton can expose Spurs but they’ll need to take their chances
Despite being in the relegation zone and how poor Everton have been in the last month, their position is still false. With the 10-point deduction in mind, Everton should be in the midtable battle and therefore they’re well placed to compete with anyone in the league.

Against Spurs, that’ll be no different as Dyche’s side can take advantage of the huge gaps that Postecoglou’s side leaves when they attack.

Against Fulham, the lack of clinical finishing cost Everton dearly but if they can change that here, they’ll be in good stead to take at least a point.
