Fabrizio Romano denies recent reports about Tottenham’s Antonio Nusa pursuit  – Spurs Web – Tottenham Hotspur Football News

• Contrary to what has been reported over the last couple of days, Fabrizio Romano has said that Tottenham still have plenty of work to do to get a deal for Antonin Nusa over the line.

Over the last 24 hours, various outlets have suggested that Nusa is edging closer to a move to Spurs.

This includes an update by TEAMtalk, who claimed on Wednesday morning that the Lilywhites are confident that the Norway international will be a Tottenham player by the end of this week.

Something similar was also reported by journalist Ben Jacobs, who said on the Last Word on Spurs podcast last evening that the transfer is still very much on course, with the negotiations between Tottenham and Club Brugge now thought to be at an ‘advanced’ stage.

However, these claims have now been refuted by Romano, who insisted that the deal is not at the final stages as of yet.

He also backed what we have heard from various other sources by explaining that Nusa himself would prefer to remain at Brugge on loan until the end of the season even if a deal goes through.

Romano told GiveMeSport about Tottenham’s pursuit of the winger: “So the conversation is ongoing with Club Brugge at the moment and is not yet at the final stage.

“Also because the player doesn’t want to leave in January, so the intention of the player and Club Brugge in this case, is to complete the season together and then let the player leave in the summer transfer window.

“So the plan for Tottenham would be to sign the deal now and let Antonio Nusa stay on loan at Brugge until the end of the season.”

Having seemingly put in a lot of groundwork on the Nusa deal over the last couple of weeks, one would not expect Tottenham to let it slip right now. I remain relatively confident that the club will get the 18-year-old through the door before the February 1 deadline.
