‘No idea why’ – Jacob Steinberg absolutely slaughters David Moyes on X during West Ham vs Bournemouth clash
Jacob Steinberg absolutely ripped into David Moyes for the way that he set up his West Ham team for our clash with Bournemouth tonight.
West Ham played host to Bournemouth in the Premier League at the London Stadium tonight, and David Moyes raised some eyebrows with his team selection.

Jarrod Bowen started up front for the Hammers, with Mohammed Kudus out on the right…nothing strange there.
However, James Ward-Prowse playing out wide on the left and Tomas Soucek in the number 10 role really was surprising.
And then Kalvin Phillips was handed his first Premier League start since May, and it showed. It really didn’t have to be this way.

Moyes could have set his team up in a 3-5-2 formation, or Maxwel Cornet could have played out wide on the left, with Ward-Prowse operating centrally instead of Soucek.
The Scot could also have started Danny Ings up front with Kudus out on the left and Bowen in the right wing position.

The Guardian journalist took to his official X account tonight, and shared his disbelief at the way in which the Hammers set up against the Cherries tonight:
I don’t understand why West Ham have dug this hole for themselves.
Steinberg is absolutely spot on. There was absolutely no need for Moyes to set up in the way that he did.
Forget the formation, the performance itself was dreadful. There was no game-plan, no patterns of play and absolutely no desire to win from any player out on that pitch.
Big changes are needed, and Moyes needs to drastically change the way that he approaches games.
It also begs the question why the exits of Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals have been sanctioned…unless of course Moyes has a new arrival lined up.
The West Ham vs Bournemouth game was just a thoroughly depressing watch all round, and David Moyes has to shoulder most of the blame for that in my opinion.
