Dwight McNeil sends message to Burnley fans after what happened to Everton star at Goodison Park
Dwight McNeil has sent his best wishes to Burnley after Everton knocked his former club out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
McNeil, 23, had arguably one of his best performances for the Blues at Goodison Park on 1 November but the ex-Clarets winger was widely booed by the away fans throughout the 90 minutes.
McNeil took to his personal Instagram account after the match to send a message to Burnley fans.
Writing on his story, he said: “A club I hold dear in my heart, always wishing Burnley the best.”
What is it with some football fans booing their former players even though they didn’t leave on bad terms?
McNeil might not have been amazing for the Clarets and he was particularly poor when they were relegated from the Premier League before Everton signed him.
Maybe the fans have an issue with him seemingly jumping ship when they dropped into the Championship.
Either way, we saw it at the West Ham game too when their fans booed Declan Rice when he played against them for the first time with Arsenal.
This is a young man who just captained them to a European title. Only Bobby Moore and Billy Dodds have lifted silverware as West Ham captains in the London club’s entire history, yet Rice is being booed.
There’s a weird sense of entitlement among football fans these days.
McNeil rightly left Burnley for Everton to play with his former manager Sean Dyche in the Premier League for a massive club.
Who in their right mind would have said no?
