Top of their game’: Michael Owen says Tottenham duo made it look ‘easy’ against Arsenal

Michael Owen was full of praise for James Maddison and Son Heung-min for the role they played in Tottenham Hotspur collecting a deserved point at Arsenal on Sunday.

Both of Tottenham’s goals were scored by their captain. And both were assisted by their thriving summer signing, James Maddison – after the north London derby, Jude Bellingham praised his fellow countryman.

With those goals, Son Heung-min (6) now goes ahead of Thierry Henry for goals scored in north London derbies, with Michael Owen adding that Tottenham made their second goal look ‘easy’, as he told Premier League Production (24/09/23 at 4:15 pm).

Arsenal fans were still celebrating Bukayo Saka’s penalty when Jorginho, who came on as a half-time substitute for the injured Declan Rice, was robbed off the ball by James Maddison in his own half.

With the England star gunning down on Arsenal’s goal, he had his captain beside him, with William Saliba ahead, as he timed his pass to perfection and Son did the rest.

It was a moment of Ange Postecoglou’s side showcasing their ruthless nature and leaving the Emirates with a deserved point.

“In theory, it’s an easy pass, but it’s the timing of the pass. Making sure everyone is onside. It’s the timing, the weight and it’s the finish. The calmness.

“It’s two players at the top of their game. If Tottenham are asking for two players to be bearing down on goal there, then you are thinking ‘please be Maddison and please be Son’, and it was. They made a difficult enough of a situation look easy.”

It’s the new partnership that is forming at Hotspur Way and it has got the fans pretty excited.

Both are exceptional footballers, who like to perform on the front foot, high up the pitch and with numbers around them.

Well, with Ange Postecoglou now in the dugout, they are getting that in bucketloads because he is allowing Spurs to attack at will.
