Heung-min Son blown away by ‘very, very impressive’ £25m Tottenham player in Everton victory

Tottenham Hotspur got themselves back on track on Saturday following their disappointing draw against Leicester City earlier in the week.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side were firing on all cylinders against a shell shocked Everton with the points wrapped up inside the opening 25 minutes.

Following what was a wasteful display from Tottenham against the Foxes on Monday, Spurs were anything but that against the Toffees.

Heung-min Son helped himself to two goals in north London with Cristian Romero and Yves Bissouma also getting on the score sheet.

However, there was one player who seriously impressed the Tottenham captain having also seen what he is capable of doing in training at Hotspur Way.

What Heung-min Son said about Wilson Odobert’s Tottenham debut
It has been a busy summer for Tottenham when it comes to player departures but it has been much more controlled when it comes to player arrivals.

Tottenham’s transfer business is now expected to be just about done having signed Wilson Odobert last week.

And the former Burnley winger made his debut from the start on Saturday against Everton where he was certainly able to impress.

Odobert was not available to play on Monday against Leicester as he awaited his work permit but an opportunity arose on Saturday with Dominic Solanke out through injury.

And clearly, he showed enough against the Toffees to impress his captain who stole the show with his two goals.

“He was very, very impressive,” Son told football.london.

“He’s been training with the team, maybe three or four times, maybe a little bit more, but you can see how much quality he has. And he understood how we want to play and I was very, very pleased to see him on the left side, going one-on-one and making a good impact.

“I mean it’s his first game, we don’t…let’s not celebrate too much because, you know, with the young players we need to stay very humble. We also have to take care of these players, we can’t let them celebrate that much after one game, because football has such a long, long period and long season. So I will also tell him I’m trying to help him, the young lads, because it’s not everything, you know one game is not everything.

Wilson Odobert’s Tottenham debut in numbers
Having made the move from Burnley in a deal worth around £25m, Odobert came straight into the starting XI.

With Son playing through the middle, Odobert was provided with the opportunity to provide an alternative right-footed threat on the left-wing.

And that is exactly what he proved to be with the French winger looking to get at the Everton right-back, Roman Dixon, on his own debut for the Blues.

Next up for Spurs is a trip to Newcastle United so it will be interesting to see whether Odobert is able to retain his place in the side, but that could depend on Solanke’s injury recovery.

Tottenham picked up a convincing 4-0 victory against Everton on Saturday afternoon.

The North Londoners were rampant going forward with Son Heung-Min bagging a brace whilst Yves Bissouma and Cristian Romero also got on the scoresheet.

Ange Postecoglou handed a debut to Wilson Odobert and labelled his first outing in Tottenham colours as ‘really exciting’.

Dejan Kulusevski was the real unsung hero against Everton last night and his terrific Sofascore statistics only amplify that.

Kulusevski laid on the assist for Bissouma’s opener and was really proficient in possession, as evinced by his pass completion rate.

The Sweden international perhaps could’ve had more assists too as he made four key passes from his new role in midfield.

Speaking post-match, Postecoglou hailed Kulusevski’s display.

“We had Deki playing in midfield today, Kulusevski, I thought he was really good and we had Sonny scored a goal through the middle and he scored a goal when he went out wide,” the Spurs boss said, via Football London.

Perhaps he’ll start to play the number eight role much more frequently as it certainly suits his skill set.

Tottenham are next in action on September 1st, as they travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United.
