Everton: New timeline set for appeal against Premier League 10-point deduction

Everton will discover by “mid-February” whether they have been successful in their appeal against the Premier League’s 10-point deduction, according to Alan Myers.

The Toffees were hit with the record punishment in November for breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Sky Sports reporter Myers posted on his personal Twitter account [30 January]: “Everton’s appeal hearing following their 10 point deduction for breaching profitability and sustainability rules will be heard over the next three days

“The appeal hearing will begin tomorrow and end on Friday with a final decision expected to be announced by mid-February.”

Clarity

Even if the full 10-point deduction is not overturned, Everton will still want to knock as many points as possible off that total.

Given the tight nature at the bottom of the Premier League, every last point will count in this battle to avoid relegation.

The Toffees have since been hit with fresh PSR charges, of course, and a final decision on that may not arrive until after the season.

Even after this appeal hearing, then, there will still be real uncertainty with regards to Everton’s true points tally.

At least this case being settled over the next couple of weeks will provide some sort of clarity, though.

The club will no doubt put a strong case forward as to why the 10-point punishment was needlessly excessive.

At a time when Everton are struggling for form on the field, it would be a nice boost if they were to get one over on the Premier League by winning this appeal.
