Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga is close to agreeing a move to Bundesliga side Augsburg in a bid to secure more consistent minutes in European football.

The 24-year-old is edging nearer to agreeing a loan move to the German outfit who have shown interest in offering him a way out of Spurs.

Tanganga enjoyed a stellar breakthrough at Tottenham under Jose Mourinho but has struggled since and is now considering options from clubs around Europe.

New Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has placed others ahead of him in the defensive pecking order and shows no signs of changing with the club unbeaten in their three opening Premier League games.

New summer signing Micky van de Ven has cemented a place at the heart of Tottenham’s defence alongside Cristian Romero, while the emergence of Destiny Udogie at left-back means leaving Spurs will provide Tanganga with his best chance of regular minutes.

Tottenham have been willing to listen to offers for Tanganga, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier, who has been the subject of an enquiry from Burnley.

Tanganga hasn’t played for Tottenham so far this season and only made seven appearances last campaign.

He was also the subject of interest from AC Milan earlier in the transfer window before that cooled.

Augsburg finished one point above the Bundesliga relegation zone last season and are without a win in their opening two matches this season.
