Stephen Warnock has made a brilliant claim about West Ham star Lucas Paqueta after he received a standing ovation from Liverpool fans.

The game got away from West Ham as they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday.

But one player who did not deserve to be on the losing side against Liverpool was West Ham’s Brazilian magnifico Lucas Paqueta.

The midfielder oozed class throughout and had the Liverpool players on strings. He also got stuck in, winning the ball more than any other player on the pitch.

It was just a shame he was required to do most of his work so deep due to West Ham’s understandably cautious approach with Mo Salah down that side.

Paqueta was a box of tricks throughout and Liverpool’s players could not get near the Hammers ace.

Whether he was slipping the ball between their legs or flicking it over their heads, he was a class apart.

On multiple occasions as many as three Liverpool players were required to contain Paqueta, often with no other option than to foul him.

As reported by Hammers News yesterday, Paqueta received a standing ovation from the Liverpool fans as he was substituted in the 87th minute.

Now a Sky Sports pundit who used to play for the Reds has delivered his own glowing assessment.

Speaking on Sky Sports News’ The Football Show, Warnock was awestruck by Paqueta.

“Phwoar, I could watch him all day,” Warnock said at 11.25am.

“Some of the skill and the ability that he showed yesterday – he’s a delight to watch. Some of his retention of the ball in tight areas, I mean he could keep it off you in a phone box – he’s got that capability – he’s just so, so talented.

“When he came off the Liverpool fans were applauding his display because it was that good in the middle of the park.

“There were some moments where Liverpool fans in and around me were clapping the things he did. I appreciated that performance, it was outstanding from him, he’s a gem of a player.”
