Kevin Thelwell reacts to ‘exciting’ contract news coming out of Everton

It has been a bright start to the transfer window for Everton so far with Kevin Thelwell having worked his magic in the market.

Sean Dyche will not be overly pleased with the action on the pitch, however, with Everton having lost two of their three friendlies.

But there is one positive to take and that is the Blues remain without a number of their first team starters from those defeats.

Even the new arrivals have not all featured this summer with Jesper Lindstrom nursing an injury concern and Jake O’Brien having just sealed his move.

Having secured the signing of the Ireland international, O’Brien, earlier this week, Kevin Thelwell has now reacted to further good news coming out of the club.

Kevin Thelwell delighted by what Everton have announced

Everton have certainly been busy this summer having seen players both come and go in the summer transfer window.

The Toffees have seen one considerable sale in Amadou Onana leaving in a deal worth £50m to Aston Villa.

But, for the large part, Everton have looked to strengthen their side with some attacking reinforcement brought in with Lindstrom and Iliman Ndiaye.

Although money has been spent on attackers, it has now been announced one of the club’s promising wingers will be sticking around for another few years.

On Thursday, Everton announced young talent Joel Catesby had inked his first-ever professional deal with the club.

Everton’s sporting director Thelwell has been left delighted by the news as he told the club’s website of his excitement.

“Joel’s been at the Club for a long time and he’s continued to make really encouraging progress through the age groups,” he said.

“He’s an exciting player to watch and impressed last season as a first-year scholar. We’re looking forward to seeing him develop in the coming years with our Academy.”

Who is Everton’s Joel Catesby?

The 17-year-old winger is a Birkenhead-born winger who has now inked a three-year deal to keep him around at Finch Farm.

Catesby is a lifelong Evertonian and has been with the club since the age of just four.

He has now represented the Toffees at U18 and U21 level where he returned eight goal contributions in his 14 U18 Premier League appearances last season.

As well as Thelwell, it was apparent the young winger was left absolutely delighted by the prospect of staying at his boyhood club as he aims for some lofty goals.

“My targets for the upcoming season are to start strong with the Under-18s and then hopefully push on to the ‘21s. My ambition is to eventually play with the Senior Team and break through,” he said.
