Tottenham now want to pay less than £40m to sign ‘world class’ player

Harry Kane’s departure rocked Tottenham to the core last summer, but, as of yet, Spurs haven’t replaced the England captain after his move to Bayern Munich.

Tottenham still need to sign a new striker, and a number of reported options have been linked.

Santiago Gimenez is said to be a player Tottenham are keen on, while Jonathan David has also been linked to Spurs.

Ivan Toney is another player Tottenham are said to be keen on, and according to Dean Jones, speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Toney is indeed on Spurs’ list of targets.

However, according to Jones, Tottenham are hoping to pay less than £40m to sign Toney this summer.

Tottenham want Ivan Toney for less than £40m

Jones shared what he knows about Spurs’ interest in the ‘world class’ attacker.

“It is still looking viable that Richarlison leaves Tottenham. There has been talk about Santi Gimenez, Jonathan David, they are on the list, but Ivan Toney is there too. If they can get him, in their eyes, under £40m, I don’t think that’s a bad idea for Tottenham at all,” Jones said.

How Brentford have valued Ivan Toney

Tottenham want to sign Ivan Toney for less than £40m, but that does appear to be unlikely.

It’s not long since Brentford reportedly valued Toney at £100m.

Of course, as Toney enters the final year of his contract, that number will have dropped, but Thomas Frank has been clear that he wants more than £40m for the player.

“Normally I don’t go into these price labels, but I would say that’s very cheap for a 20-goal goalscorer in the Premier League,” Frank said when asked if he’d sell Toney for around £40m.

The reality is that in this market, Toney is an incredibly valuable commodity, and there’s very little chance that Spurs get Toney for such a bargain fee.
