Everton eye late move for £12m Abdoulaye Doucoure rival scoring every 75 minutes

Well, someone might have just pulled a rabbit out of the hat, with TEAMtalk now revealing that Everton are keen on bringing Chuba Akpom to Goodison Park from Ajax on loan.

The 28-year-old, who joined from Middlesbrough in a £12m move, is reportedly ‘open to joining’ a Premier League club, having shone in the Championship just last season.

Having endured a slow start to life in Amsterdam, amid the chaos that was ongoing in the early parts of the season, things now seem to have levelled out.

That has, unsurprisingly, coincided with Akpom’s return to form.

In fact, across his 20 appearances across all competitions, of which he has only been handed a total of 672 minutes, the Englishman has nine goals. This means he is finding the net once every 75 minutes.

For comparison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored four goals across 1,591 total minutes this season, a goal every 398 minutes.

Improvement is needed.

Fortunately, this attack-minded asset knows exactly where the back of the net is, and according to the aforementioned report can also deputise in a deeper role to offset the ongoing Abdoulaye Doucoure absence.

They write: ‘Akpom has the ability to play as a striker or as an attacking midfielder.

This would make Akpom a good fit for Everton, as he could fill in for Abdoulaye Doucoure who has been superb when playing in the number 10 role this season.’

Their 31-year-old ace has six goals this season and remains the club’s top scorer. Their form has nosedived since his injury.
