Sam Lammers Rangers transfer conundrum as £6.7m Spurs deal jolts Ibrox nerves

The future of Rangers striker Sam Lammers has come further under the microscope after comments made by Philippe Clement over the weekend.

The Dutch striker, 27, is expected to leave Ibrox after a £3.5m switch from Atalanta last summer failed to go to plan in Glasgow.

Eventually farmed out on loan to FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie, Sam Lammers netted 11 times back in the Netherlands and has been expected to return to his home country permanently.

But one team of reported suitors have now turned their attentions elsewhere as a £6.7m Premier League deal leaves Rangers scratching their heads over the ex-PSV star.

FC Utrecht were initially expected to return for Sam Lammers this summer.

But amid clashes with regards Lammers’ excessive wage demands, a deal failed to materialise.

The Dutch side would then strike deals for RKC Waalwijk striker David Min and Standard Liege forward Noah Ohio, ending their pursuit of the Rangers striker.

AZ Alkmaar then took over the role of would-be suitors, the £18m sale of Vangelis Pavlidis to Benfica both boosting the club’s transfer coffers and opening a space in the squad.

But now De Kaasboeren have opted to move elsewhere too.

AZ have completed a deal to bring Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrot from Tottenham Hotspur in a major statement of intent.

According to the likes of Football.London, the transfer is worth €8m (£6.7m) with Spurs retaining a 20% sell-on as part of the deal to bring the 22-year-old to the Netherlands.

Rangers need to raise transfer funds
The situation will naturally raise some nerves over Sam Lammers’ situation at Rangers.

It is clear the player wants to move on this summer and Rangers are reportedly willing to cut their losses with the hitman.

Lammers was not part of the Rangers squad which has just completed an intensive training camp in the Netherlands.

With Rangers looking to recoup £2.5m from the sale of Lammers, the issue doesn’t appear to be with any potential transfer fee.

Only this week was a leading Dutch journalist branding Sam Lammers’ wage demands as ‘unaffordable’ for Eredivisie sides.

The situation is also complicated by comments made over by Rangers manager Philippe Clement about having to raise funds through sales in order to complete necessary transfer business this summer.

Clement took a loaded barb at the Rangers board by claiming that the stagnant transfer situation was not what he ‘expected’ when he took the job in October.

In essence, Rangers are lumbered with an expensive Dutch forward who doesn’t want to play in Glasgow but is deemed too expensive for the Netherlands

Rangers are also waiting on the Lammers domino to fall in order to fund part of this summer’s business.

With the striker’s two leading Dutch suitors now out of the picture, Lammers’ future is more uncertain than ever.
