It’s common knowledge that two of the world’s most dynamic and thrilling rugby teams are Barbarians and Fiji. Above all, they stress how much fun the game is and how free you are to toss the egg-shaped ball around. Thus, there were great hopes for an exciting game of festival rugby when the two teams faced off on Saturday. The sun shone on what was to be many of the players’ final international match, set at Twickenham stadium in front of fans who had just been entertained to Wales vs. South Africa that day.
Many England stars were giving what would probably be their last performances at HQ. Zach Mercer, Dave Ribbans, and Harry Thacker are a million miles away from the England team, while Kyle Sinckler, who signed with Toulon and is now ineligible for England, Danny Care, Ben Youngs, and Jonny May have all retired from the international system. Naturally, there was the chance to witness the gifted player Fergus Burke, a playwright who has contributed much to the few positive aspects of the Crusaders’ campaign, as he heads to Saracens this summer.
Legendary All Black player Sam Whitelock led the black and white hoops and received a standing ovation at the end of the game, along with innumerable others who came through with outstanding performances for the invitational team.

It was a historic event that paid true homage to rugby. As soon as the event occurred, fans expressed their happiness. One fan summarized the day by saying: Loved the vibe and attitude of the Babaas event, which was also played by the Flying Fijiians. Sam Whitelock had a nice game to cap off an incredible career. Final score: Fiji 32, Barbarians 45.
