“Brighton to Receive Hefty Compensation as De Zerbi Joins Marseille; Hurzeler Named New Head Coach”

Brighton and Hove Albion will receive substantial compensation from Marseille as Roberto De Zerbi is set to be announced as their new head coach.

Although De Zerbi had a contract with Brighton until 2026, they agreed to part ways at the end of last season on the condition that Albion would still receive about £5 million in compensation if he joined another club. His release clause at Brighton was previously reported to be around £15 million."New Coach Unveiled:Roberto DE Zerbi Move to Marseille Grant Brighton Great Fortune in Nets Millions...Read more

During his two successful seasons at Brighton, the Italian led the team to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League and secured a spot in the Europa League for the first time in their history.

De Zerbi will replace Jean-Louis Gasset, the last of three managers appointed by Marseille last season, who finished eighth in the league.

This isn’t the first time Brighton has received significant compensation for a head coach. In 2022, they received more than £20 million from Chelsea when they hired former manager Graham Potter.

Brighton quickly moved on from De Zerbi, announcing earlier this month that 31-year-old German Fabian Hurzeler will be his successor. Hurzeler, who signed a contract through 2027, will become the youngest permanent manager in the club’s history.

The Texas-born coach has made an impression in his short managerial career, having led German club St Pauli to the Bundesliga in his first full season in charge.

“From the start of the process to appoint our new head coach, Fabian was always a standout candidate who caught our attention with his exceptional work at St Pauli over the past 18 months,” said Albion chairman Tony Bloom.
