“Brighton Set to Miss Out on Nigerian Forward Philip Otele as He Nears Move to UAE”
Brighton & Hove Albion of the English Premier League are likely to miss out on signing Nigerian forward Philip Otele, who is reportedly on the verge of moving to the United Arab Emirates.
The Seagulls showed strong interest in Otele before their former player Roberto De Zerbi unexpectedly left the club at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
Brentford, another Premier League club, scouted Otele in January 2024 but did not proceed with a formal offer to his club, CFR Cluj.
FANATIK Romania reports that CFR Cluj has accepted a €4.5 million bid from Al Wahda, a team in the UAE Pro League, for Otele. His agent, Andrei Balmos, confirmed that an agreement is in place between the clubs, though he did not disclose full details of the deal. It’s reported that Otele will earn €1.5 million annually.
Otele joined CFR Cluj from UTA Arad last summer and had an impressive season, scoring 18 goals in 40 appearances, making him the joint-top scorer in the league alongside FC Steaua București’s Florinel Coman. CFR Cluj, preparing for Otele’s departure, has signed Adrian Păun as a replacement.
