“Rangers Urged to Move On from Injury-Prone Ryan Jack Amid Midfield Overhaul”
Derek Ferguson believes that Rangers should completely sever ties with Ryan Jack and avoid any attempt to re-sign him. Despite the club announcing on June 1 that the Scotland international would leave at the end of his contract, talkSPORT’s David Tanner suggested that Rangers might consider a “pay-per-play” deal for the injury-prone midfielder. However, Ferguson, a former Rangers player, sees no benefit in extending the association given Jack’s ongoing fitness issues and doubts that either Jack or manager Philippe Clement would be interested in such a contract.
Ferguson stated to Ibrox News, “Honestly, I think they should cut all ties; there’s no value in it. Jack has been struggling recently. While he’s a good player when fit, his persistent injuries and age are problematic. He was with the Scotland squad without training, raising concerns about another potential calf injury.
Sometimes as you age, part-time football might be necessary. I don’t know the full extent of his injury, but it’s unfortunate. I’m not in favor of the pay-as-you-play model, and I doubt Jack or the manager would be either. It’s the right time for Jack, [John] Lundstram, and others to move on, as the club needs fresh, new players.”
If it were solely based on his abilities, Ryan Jack, 31, likely would not have seen his contract expire. However, he exemplifies a persistent issue at Ibrox, where players have frequently been unavailable when needed by successive managers.
The addition of Connor Barron marks the beginning of a new era in midfield. With John Lundstram, a regular last season, now in Turkey about to sign for Trabzonspor, more changes in the midfield are expected.
