“Viewers Outraged Over Low Pay for Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders in New Netflix Series”
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, dubbed “America’s Sweethearts,” are featured in Netflix’s new reality show. Viewers have criticized their wages, likening them to fast food workers’ pay while their bosses live lavishly.
The series documents the 2023-24 Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ journey from auditions and training camp through the NFL season. Despite being part of a high-profile squad, where cheerleaders can earn around $500 per game, the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders make about $15-20 per hour, translating to an annual salary of about $75,000. Although they earn more than the typical $150 per game that most cheerleaders make, they still face long hours and relatively low pay.
Director Greg Whiteley mentioned that the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders are at the top of the NFL cheerleading pay scale but acknowledged that their pay isn’t substantial. He noted that while they’re better off than other NFL cheerleaders, they aren’t wealthy.
Former cheerleader Kat Puryear compared their earnings to those of a substitute teacher or a full-time Chick-fil-A worker. Netflix viewers have voiced their concerns about the cheerleaders’ low pay compared to their bosses, calling for higher salaries, healthcare, and better representation.
One viewer commented, “These girls need agents and a healthcare plan. They make Jones a LOT of money.” Another added, “Then they are talking about all the surgeries they need and their injuries.”
