“Connor Williams Eyes New Horizons Amid Dolphins’ Center Shake-Up”
Dolphins free agent center Connor Williams is focusing on other teams as he prepares for the upcoming season following a serious knee injury last December against Tennessee. When asked by WSVN-7’s Josh Moser about the possibility of Williams returning to the Dolphins, agent Drew Rosenhaus indicated late Sunday night that while Williams would be open to the idea, it’s unlikely given the team’s recent signing of center Aaron Brewer from the Titans. Brewer signed a substantial three-year, $21 million contract in March, with $13 million guaranteed, solidifying his role as the Dolphins’ center. Despite both Brewer and Williams having experience at guard, Williams prefers to continue playing as a center, a position he held with the Dolphins for two seasons.
Williams sustained a torn ACL in the game against Tennessee and initially wasn’t certain if he would be able to play in the 2024 season. He opted not to negotiate contracts early in free agency due to the uncertainty surrounding his recovery timeline. However, Rosenhaus noted in his recent TV segment that Williams has made remarkable progress and appears on track to be ready for the start of the season.
According to evaluations by PFF (Pro Football Focus), Williams had an impressive record in pass blocking, allowing very few pressures compared to other centers. Brewer, on the other hand, was rated the 11th best center overall last season by PFF, excelling particularly in run blocking and fitting well into Miami’s zone blocking scheme. However, Brewer did allow six sacks (second most among centers) and 34 pressures (third most) in pass blocking situations last season.
Brewer, who began his career undrafted out of Texas State in 2020, served as the Titans’ starting center over the past two seasons before joining the Dolphins.
