In an exciting Killik Cup match at Twickenham, the Barbarians defeated Fijihttp://Fiji 45–32 behind two tries from former England wing Jonny May.
After tying the game at 17-17 in the first half thanks to goals from teammates Lachlan Boshier and Chay Fihaki, May scored his second goal ten minutes into the second half. Zach Mercer’s late-game touchdown sealed the victory for a team headed by All Blacks great Sam Whitelock, who also saw international Leicester Fainga’anuku and flanker Boshier score twice.
Danny Care, Kyle Sinckler, David Ribbans, Ben Youngs, Jonathan Joseph, and the French duo of Gael Fickou and Cameron Woki joined May on the Baa-baas team. With Epeli Momo scoring a hat-trick of tries and Kemueli Valentini scoring 10 points, including adding the extras to his own score in the second half, Fiji put a lot of pressure on the star-studded lineup.
Half-fly The Flying Fijians’ other seven points were kicked by Caleb Muntz, while the Barbarians’ full-back Fihaki converted four of his five attempts before Japan hooker Shota Horie scored the game’s last two points. It was a fun match.
